Movie Review: Brides Maids 3 stars
The movie Brides Maids is almost as funny as last year's The Hangover. It's a bit raunchy but also very funny and touching in places. Kristen Wiig is excellent as the sad sack Maid of Honor for her best friend. Besides her life coming apart at the seams, one of the other brides maids are showing her up at every turn. This is a well written movie chock full have a lot of laughs. Well worth your movie dollar.
Movie Review: Win Win 3.5 stars
The movie Win Win is a small independent film that most people will never see and that's a shame. It has wonderful actors who are perfectly cast in this quirky movie. Paul Giamatti, the king of independent films plays a lawyer who has a good heart but gets tempted to do the wrong thing and ends up paying for it. Even the minor characters in this movie are golden and the story grabs you from the beginning. It's one of those rare movies where I'm disappointed that it ended because I wanted to know what happened to the characters in the future.
Everyone needs to put this on their "must watch" rental list. Unless you go to an independent film theater or it wins the Oscar for best picture you won't get a chance to see it. It is well worth your movie or rental dollar.

Movie Review: Thor 2.5
Thor was pretty good but not great. I wasn't expecting much from this movie and it lived up to my expectations. It was the typical super hero story with a little humor thrown in. Thank goodness for the little bit of humor or this would have been a 1.5 movie. I saw it in 2D rather than 3D but just like Avatar, the extra D can't overcome a mediocre story and bad acting. Definitely not worth the $13 3D ticket. There's a bunch of superhero movies coming out so let's hope some decides to actually write an interesting story to along with the ever present special effects.
